Ram - the Woodcarver

Updated: Feb 27, 2021

The Master who creates traditional wooden stamps for Block-Printing.

Ram is a talented wood carver with a little stall on the street in Pushkar.

In the age of 3D printers and CNC routers, he carves every single wood block by hand. Seated crossed legged on the ground he spends hours upon hours creating his magic. Whether it is an intricate traditional Rajasthani motif or a modern sacred geometry pattern, he takes his time and skillfully transfers it onto a wooden block.

Let us show you his work.

We know Ram for some time already. Every year we buy his creations and bring them back home as they make perfect gifts and amazing decoration in our home and stores.

To reduce waste, this year we decided to take all labels from our designs out. Instead, we came up with the idea to use the Hand Block Print technique and have our logo hand-stamped onto garments and bags. To show our appreciation and support we asked Ram to carve our logo out. As you can see, he did a great job and the result is amazing.

Having our Logo carved on a wooden block by Ram was only the first step to make our idea happen. Take a look at the actual process of hand-block printing in our story about Nandi Ji – the Rajasthani Block Print Guru and her family.
